Nationally Known Electronics Company to Expand El Paso Facilities

A company that designs and manufactures a wide variety of consumer electronics, including smart phones, iPods, and tablets, is preparing to build an extensive new distribution center in El Paso.

That center will measure 276,000 square feet.

SDI Technologies currently has two up and running facilities for distribution in El Paso, one measuring around 60,000 square feet, and the other 120,000 square feet.

But both facilities are operating at near capacity, prompting the company, which was founded in 1965, to make plans for a significantly larger center.

The $15 million building will go up near the intersection of Rojas Drive and Joe Battle Boulevard.

Members of the El Paso City Council have voted to approve a $694,000 tax incentive to get the building completed. SDI Technologies officials have said that the new center will provide employment for at least 88 people in the next five years.

Always on the cutting edge of electronic product invention and production, SDI in the 1960s was known for, among other things, its pocket cigarette lighters and transistor radios.
