In a section of Colorado where the threat of forest and grass fires is just as great as that to manmade structures, plans are underway to build a new $1 million fire station.
Officials with the Pleasant View Fire Station in the town of Pleasant View, which has a population of less than 1,000 people, want to build the structure on a currently vacant 5-acre site in the 15000 block of County Road CC.
The two-story structure would go up across the street from the Pleasant View Elementary School and would include both half a dozen vehicle bays, training and bunking space, and a large meeting room with modern kitchen facilities.
Funding to build the new facility will come from the department’s own capital reserves, as well as anticipated energy impact grants.
The mostly volunteer department’s current station on County Road CC, just to the east of US Highway 691 is thought to be too small and plagued with a series of maintenance issues.
A building schedule for the project remains to be announced.
