A Colorado project that could see the long-anticipated connection of a walking trail with a nearby waterfall may see first-phase work beginning next year.
The nonprofit Colorado Springs Health Foundation has announced that it is awarding $100,000 for the trail extension project, based in Manitou Springs.
The project will see not only the extension of Manitou Springs Creek Walk, which runs adjacent to the Fountain Creek, but also new benches, signage, and lighting.
The foundation grant will apply specifically to pre-construction work. Earlier, the project received $1.4 million in support from the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority for the actual construction.
That agency is dedicated to regional transportation issues in both Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs.
Actual work on the trail could begin sometime in 2018 or early 2019.
