Englewood, Colorado to See Build-Out of Extensive Climbing Gym

A growing demand for more and better climbing gyms is about to see the building out of a 52,000 square foot space in Englewood, Colorado.

Earth Treks Climbing, a Rockville, Maryland-based company that specializes in climbing walls and bouldering areas, has announced it will re-purpose an existing office space at 1050 W. Hampden Avenue to make way for the gym.

That space, comprised of two two-story buildings, formerly served as the corporate headquarters for the sporting goods chain Sports Authority, which filed for bankruptcy in the spring of 2016.

Now Earth Treks says it wants to build what it describes as the “largest gym in the nation” there, a facility that will include climbing space, a gear shop, yoga studio, locker rooms, and fitness and cardio zones.

The new Englewood site is part of a larger expansion plan by Earth Treks which will see the building and opening of at least ten other gyms nationally in the near future.

Earth Treks currently has three other climbing gyms, in Maryland and Virginia, varying in size between 20,000 square feet and 38,000 square feet.

The company is part of a larger climbing gym industry, which today is made up of more than four hundred gyms nationally and saw the opening of over two dozen new gyms in the last year alone.
