The year-around resort known as the Lazy K Bar Guest Ranch in the town of Marana, Arizona appears to be on its way to redevelopment as a subdivision.
Members of the Marana Town Council have given the green light to a zoning change that was earlier approved by the town’s planning commission, allowing for four times the density currently permitted for the site.
Located at 8110 N. Scenic Drive, some 25 miles northwest of Tucson, the ranch opened in 1940, offering horse-riding and walking trails, among other amenities.
In the 1960s, the ranch was used for the filming of the popular TV Western, the High Chaparral. The ranch discontinued operations in 2007.
Plans currently call for 178 homes to be built on the site, ranging in size from 6,000 to 11,000 square feet. A stone house built in 1928 at the site will be preserved.
Earlier reports indicated that those homes would be priced between $400,000 and $600,000.
