Responding to a need for greater psychiatric services in western Colorado, plans are well underway for the construction of new space at an existing mental health facility in Grand Junction.
The expansion of the Mind Springs Psychiatric Hospital, which is located on 28 Road on the east side of the city, will give the facility a total of 64 beds, with one unit comprised of 16 beds dedicated to youth patients.
As planned, the project will see the construction of both private and semi-private rooms, an interior courtyard, and gymnasium.
The expansion will also include lobby space, an office, and day room.
The project has received $2 million in support from the non-profit Denver Foundation’s Colorado Health Access Fund. Altogether, nearly $13 million has now been secured.
Mind Springs officials say that a renewed push will be launched in next month for a final fundraising goal of $17.5 million.
