Meat Processing Plant to Undertake Expansion

A newly-opened Roswell, New Mexico meat processing operation is already making plans for a facility expansion.

USA Beef Packing, which formally opened for business two months ago, has announced that it wants to expand its current facility at the intersection of Cedarville Avenue and County Road 232 on the east side of Roswell.

The project is expected to cost $5.4 million, with $400,000 of that amount coming from Local Economic Development Act funds through the New Mexico Economic Development Department.

The company’s current one-floor structure is the former home of Pecos Valley Meats, which went out of business in 2013.

Upon the announcement of LEDA funding for the project, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez remarked in a statement that the new meat processing facility will help the state to “continue our momentum in growing and diversifying our economy.”

The new plant will primarily service cattle growers and dairies in Chaves County, which for decades has been the home to hundreds of family-run farms.
