One of the oldest church structures in Denver, some two blocks from the State Capitol building, is now on the market with an asking price just south of $2 million.

Located at 1600 N. Grant Street, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church was built in 1925 and measures around 13,500 square feet.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the dark red brick structure features a nearly 100-foot-tall bell tower, stained-glass in arched window frames, and a sanctuary with seating for up to 350 people.

Papers submitting the church to being listed by the National Register noted that the building has a “Latin cruciform shape with the longest leg pointing to the west toward Grant Street where the main entrance is located.”

Designed in the Gothic Revival style by the Pennsylvania architectural firm of Richter and Eiler, which specialized in Lutheran church projects, the building was constructed at a cost of $200,000.

While the church has been used by worshippers for a century, the congregation in recent years has become smaller even as maintenance costs for the church have become greater, leading to a decision to put the building on the market.

Besides the large sanctuary, the building’s lower level includes an office, meeting space, classrooms, and a commercial-sized kitchen.

Listed by the Pinnacle Real Estate Advisors of Denver, the building, according to various media reports, could be repurposed as a music or special events space.
