Up to 250 7-Eleven locations in both the U.S. and Canada could see the construction of electric vehicle charging posts by the end of next year.
The Dallas-based convenience store chain, which has more than 71,000 outlets internationally, says it will build pairs of fast chargers at a variety of locations.
In a statement, Joe DePinto, chief executive officer of 7-Eleven, remarked: “Adding 500 charging ports at 250 7-Eleven stores will make EV charging more convenient and help accelerate broader adoption of EVs and alternative fuels.”
According to a press release issued by the company, once the chargers are built, 7-Eleven will have in place “one of the largest and most compatible fast-charging systems of any retailer in the U.S.”
The company earlier announced a goal of reducing by 50% its carbon dioxide output in the next several years and is already using wind power to operate more than 800 of its stores.
The company additionally already has in place 22 charging stations in just over a dozen states.
Exactly where the new 7-Eleven charging stations will be built is expected to be announced later this year.
