Long-Closed Raton Health Care Facility Set to Go to Auction

A two-day auction is scheduled to begin on September 9 for a massive 25, 200-square-foot rectangular-shaped building that for more than two decades served as a senior living facility.

Located at 1660 Hospital Drive in Raton, New Mexico, the one-story structure is the former home to the Raton Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, which was owned by the company Genesis Healthcare and ceased operations in 2021.

Built in 1994, the facility is to the south of downtown Raton in a mostly rural area, sitting on a just over 4.3-acre site.

Designated as a Class B structure, the building has housed up to 80 beds, and includes office space, as well as an interior courtyard.

Listed by the Wheaton, Illinois-based Senior Living Investment Brokerage Firm, the property sits across Hospital Drive from the Miners’ Colfax Medical Hospital.

A statement from the Kennett Square, Pennsylvania-based Genesis Healthcare, which had taken operational control of the facility in 2019, said the rehabilitation center was ultimately closed owing to the economic impact of the Covid 19 pandemic on the company.

During the early months of that pandemic, Genesis suffered a revenue loss of more than $213 million and a 10% decline in the occupancy levels of its care facilities.

The September auction of the Raton property comes with a minimum bid of $200,000.
