Renovation work is expected to begin soon on a 19-story office building in downtown Phoenix that is regarded as one of the city’s prime examples of the International Style of architecture.
Located at 111 W. Monroe Street the building was completed in 1964 and measures around 257,000 square feet.
The apparel manufacturing Kellwood Company has purchased the property, which is designated as a Class A building, for just over $17 million. Plans call for renovating all the office space in the structure, with a completion date of most likely early next year.
The building, officially called The Monroe, houses a spacious lobby, fitness center, and tenant lounge area. It was earlier listed for sale in the spring of last year for $24 million.
It was originally called the First American Title Building and was lauded upon opening for its interior gold tile walls, black Italian marble columns, and Brazilian terrazzo lobby floors.
Kellwood is one of the largest apparel manufacturing companies in the country producing the Briggs, Democracy, and Wit & Wisdom brands, among others.
