One of the great early 20th century El Paso buildings designed by well-known architect Henry Trost is on the market with an asking price of $950,000. It was listed last fall for just over $1 million.
Located at 117 W. Overland Avenue, the five-story Haymon Krupp Building was completed in 1916 and is designated as a Class C building.
For decades, serving as a clothing factory that once employed more than five hundred people, the building was eventually the home to a furniture factory as well as a boot factory.
The structure was purchased at auction in 2018 for $875,000 by the development company Myers Group, with the firm later raising the possibility of demolishing the 37,500-square-foot building owing to the high projected cost of updating it.
Those demolition plans were criticized by the non-profit group Preservation Texas which suggested that the Myers Group should make use of “state and federal tax credits,” thus ensuring that a “prominent architectural landmark in El Paso” would remain intact.
In 2022, Preservation Texas added the structure to its Most Endangered Places list. The property is being listed by the El Paso-based realtor Team Juan Uribe, which specializes in historic properties.
