Las Cruces may see the $18 million construction and development of facilities that will belong to a prominent steel processing and manufacturing company.
According to reports, the Endurance Technologies company, which is based in Calgary, Alberta, has been looking at building in New Mexico’s second largest city on a 15-acre site within the borders of the Innovation & Industrial Park.
In a statement, Jeff Pitura, Endurance chief executive officer, said the company has reviewed several sites in different states for its new facilities, and have pored over “measurable business metrics that have created a short list of prospects.”
The new plant is being seen as a response to an increased demand in the U.S. for Endurance’s products.
In a statement, Rob Black, New Mexico Economic Development Department Secretary, said if Endurance does decide to build in Las Cruces it “would represent a clear vote of confidence in New Mexico’s future, recognizing the strength of our workforce, our strategic location, and our commitment to smart, sustainable growth.”
Endurance came into being in 1993 addressing the needs of oil and gas drilling companies beset with infrastructure issues due to tubing erosion and corrosion.
The company soon came to specialize in processed tubulars and components that are not only used in the oil and gas industry, but in mining, forestry, and farming.
Endurance saw revenues of nearly $1.4 billion last year, up from $790 million in 2019. The company has 34 manufacturing plants in three countries and is currently completing the $5.5 million construction of a lithium-ion battery pack plant in Pune, Maharashtra.
It is not yet known when Endurance will make a final determination on its building plans in Las Cruces.
