Work is expected to begin next year on the building of a new practice facility that will belong to the Arizona Cardinals football team and will go up on the north side of Phoenix.
In making the announcement, Michael Bidwell, owners of the team, remarked: “Our goal has always been to provide our players and coaches with the best possible environment to prepare and perform at the highest level.”
Realization of that goal will see the Cardinals building on an undeveloped 217-acre site in the Paradise Ridge neighborhood of the city, just to the north of Arizona Loop 101. That site was purchased for $136 million by the team in June at an auction conducted by the Arizona State Land Department.
According to a press release from the team the new facility will comprise more than 250,000 square feet, and will include a locker room, weight room, strength and conditioning space, meeting rooms, and a player lounge.
The larger site will see the building of three grass outdoor practice fields.
If all goes according to plans, the new facility, located around 40 miles to the east of the team’s State Farm Stadium home in Glendale, should be completed and ready for use sometime in 2028.
The Cardinals have been training for the last 35 years at the Dignity Health Training Center, which, despite a $15 million upgrade roughly a decade ago, the team said no longer suited its purposes.
“As we evaluated our options, it became clear that we needed more space than what was available at our current location or elsewhere in Tempe,” remarked Bidwell.
The Detroit-based architecture firm of Rossetti, which specializes in sports and entertainment venue facilities, will handle the design work for the new training facility.
