A four-story brick structure built in 1885 and regarded as an architectural treasure is up for sale in Denver with a listed price of $6.5 million.
Located at 1420 N. Ogden Street to the east of downtown Denver, the structure for decades was the home to the Emerson School and measures more than 33,600 square feet.
Designated as a Class C building, the structure was designed by well-known regional architect Robert Roeschlaub and served as a schoolhouse until 1979. In more recent years, the building has housed offices for a variety of nonprofits including the preservationist-oriented Historic Denver.
The building was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
Some eight years ago it underwent a comprehensive renovation that saw three of its classrooms restored to their original configurations, along with the preservation of wood-carved windows and door frames.
Wood is indeed a predominant theme in a building that appears to be a brick fortress, with polished wood floors everywhere, and wooden railings that are a part of the staircases connecting one story to the next.
Work on the structure, which features a closed-loop geothermal system, has resulted in a LEED certification.
The property is being listed by the realtors Unique Properties, which has offices in Denver.
