In a Move to Make Broadband Deployment Less Complicated, Arizona Launches New Interactive Tool

Hoping to further increase broadband construction and access, the State of Arizona is launching a unique service designed to hasten the sometimes-sluggish permitting process.

What is officially being called the Arizona Permit Finder centers on an interactive map allowing users and developers to “reduce regulatory barriers.”

The tool has been put together by the Arizona State Broadband Office, and, according to a news release issued by the Arizona Commerce Authority, “consolidates permitting requirements into a centralized source.”

In a statement, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs characterized the Permit Finder as one that will both support broadband deployment while helping to “connect more families and workers to high-speed, reliable internet.”

The resource compiles data from federal, state, and local government sources with the goal of assisting users in “identifying broadband deployments that may require permits and cross-agency considerations.”

In an interview with the site Telecompetitor, Nicholas Capozzi noted that one of the “biggest concerns we heard from both providers and counties were the communication and the back and forth, where information might be difficult to find for providers, or maybe there’s a different permit they weren’t expecting to come up that they would need.”

Capozzi, director of the Arizona State Broadband Office, said the Permit Finder is designed to “provide as much information as we could upfront.”

The Arizona Permit Finder is expected to build on the Grand Canyon State’s national position as a broadband progressive state. According to a survey conducted earlier this year by U.S. News and World Report, Arizona was ranked number 17 nationally for internet access and infrastructure.
