An auction is scheduled to take place in two months putting on the block 272 acres in the city of Buckeye which will almost certainly be used for future mixed-use development.

The auction will be hosted by the Arizona State Land Department for a vacant stretch of land near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Jack Rabbit Trail.

Sunbelt Investment Holdings, which is based in San Diego, has already submitted an opening bid of just over $42 million for the site. If the company wins that bid, it will use the land to build a project called The Landing.

According to published reports, The Landing project will encompass a combination of retail, multifamily residential, and Class A office space, among other features.

Sunbelt Investment Holdings specializes in the development of residential and commercial real estate, focusing on projects in southern California and Arizona. Among its projects in the Grand Canyon State is the 107,000-square-foot River Center shopping center in Tucson; and the 120,000 square foot QC District shopping center in Queen Creek.

The Arizona State Land Department is tasked with managing and selling land owned by the State of Arizona. It oversees a vast province of 9.2 million acres, with generating revenue going to the state’s public schools.
