A project that could see the construction of a $10 million personal development center may soon be in the design and planning stage in Tempe, Arizona.
Officials with the Barrett Honors College say they want to build a modern facility to house their student developmental services as well as providing office, meeting, and classroom space.
The Barrett Honors College Student Success Center will most likely be built near Apache Boulevard and McAllister Avenue, close to the existing Barrett Vista del Sol complex.
The facility is seen as part of a larger $1.5 billion campaign on the Arizona State University campus to build more research and lab space.
Founded in 1988, the Barrett Honors College provides student housing, academic advising, international fellowships, and career success coaching, among other services.
The college recently received a gift of $2.5 million from Tom Lewis, chief executive officer of the T.W. Lewis Company, a Scottsdale-based real estate firm, with $1 million of that money slated to go to the construction of the new center.
In a statement, Lewis said the gift provided by himself and his wife Jan is designed to “develop successful people and successful leaders.”
The statement continues: “We believe in young people and the value of education, and we want to focus on students and help them develop their strengths.”
A timeline for when the new center will begin construction has not yet been announced.
