Responding to an increased need to provide server systems for online retail giant Amazon, a company with facilities in Socorro, Texas is expanding its manufacturing space.
The Wiwynn company, with an existing plant located at 9229 Socorro Logistics Lane, is now bringing its total Socorro investment to more than $1.6 billion.
Based in Taipei, Taiwan, the Wiwynn company’s Socorro plant is located within the borders of the Socorro Logistics Center. In announcing the construction of its initial facilities, Wiwynn said it expected to spend around $152 million.
Listed in 2024 by Time magazine as one of the most sustainable companies in the world, Wiwynn has seen its revenue just from around $7.1 billion in 2023 to more than $10.4 billion last year.
Wiwynn’s Socorro project was partly made possible by some $9.2 million in tax rebates and other incentives by both the City of Socorro and El Paso County.
The expansion effort will also see Wiwynn building a 120-megawatt natural gas power plant that will be used to supplement the power it will get from utility company El Paso Electric.
