Members of the Santa Fe Planning Commission will be tasked next week with deciding on a development plan for a project that will see construction of a 66,000-square-goot skilled nursing facility.
The project belongs to the non-profit Anchorum Health Foundation, which is based in Santa Fe and dedicated to improving healthcare outcomes for communities across the state.
As envisioned, the facility will go up on a 6.3-acre site at 2981 Galisteo Road at a currently vacant site on the south side of the city.
The organization has said that the new facility will serve the particularly important function of providing care for patients with serious injuries and illnesses who have been discharged from a hospital.
The Anchorum Health Foundation commenced in late 2023 with the goal of addressing what have been described as the “social determinants” of health by looking at such issues as homelessness, affordable housing, the ongoing shortage of doctors and nurses, and addictions.
In the announcing the launching of the foundation, Jerry Jones, chief executive officer of the effort, said one of its goals was to “think about what health looks like outside the four walls of a hospital.”
The group has said that it plans to spend upwards of $200 million on efforts to improve healthcare in the Land of Enchantment, and to that end last year gave $20 million to the Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center to recruit and retain employees, among other priorities.
According to city documents, the new two-story Galisteo Road facility will be large enough to house upwards of 80 beds.
