A new aluminum recycling plant may see construction next year in southeastern Arizona.
The plant will belong to the Alliance Metals company, which is a part of the Miami-based Technocon Industries.
As planned, the facility, to be built off US Route 60 in the town of Wenden, will feature a process allowing for the crushing and melting of scrap aluminum for later use as aluminum ingots.
Upon completion, the ingots can be sold for use in the aerospace, automotive, and military industries.
Earlier reports have indicated that the facility, once at full operating capacity, could process up to 10 million pounds of scrap aluminum on a monthly basis.
The project has now been approved for an air quality permit from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
But Alliance Metals still hopes to secure a re-zoning designation from the La Paz County Planning and Zoning Commission, changing the site of the facility from its current “rural area” to “industrial planned development.”
