Responding to substantial growth projections for the northern part of Phoenix, the Arizona Public Service company has purchased just under 55 acres for an anticipated new substation.
APS acquired the land two months ago for $25 million.
The facility will go up near the giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company plant and will be designed to support 230-kilovolt underground transmission lines required for the expansion of the TSMC facility.
The project is slated particularly for the Halo Vista master planned community development which will include some 30 million square feet of industrial, office, and retail space.
In a statement, APS said the project will bring “significant power capacity, reinforcing our commitment to delivering safe, reliable energy, while supporting job creation, business investment, innovation, and community vitality.”
Launched as the Phoenix Illuminating Company in 1886, the company became Arizona Public Service after merging with first with Northern Arizona Power and Light and then Arizona Edison.
