Advancing its new 30-minute delivery service, online retail giant Amazon is moving into a handful of former retail and office properties in Arizona.
Reports indicate that the company intends to run its delivery service operations out of two addresses in Phoenix: 1945 E. Indian School Road and 1746 W. Fillmore Street. The company also appears to be making plans to use a space at 16087 N. 80th Street in Scottsdale, as well as a building at 1302 N. Scottsdale Road.
Amazon, according to the Phoenix Business Journal, has applied for liquor licenses at all four addresses.
The Seattle-based company announced plans for its Amazon Now delivery service in May, setting up initially not only in Phoenix and Scottsdale, but also across the sunbelt in Atlanta, Austin, the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, Denver, and Houston.
At the time of that announcement, Udit Madan, senior vice president of Amazon’s Worldwide Operations, said the new service will provide delivery within 30 minutes of everything from “groceries for dinner, to AirPods before a flight, to household essentials like laundry detergents or toothpaste.”
The 1945 E. Indian School Road property in Phoenix has been the home to several businesses in the last decade, including a guitar shop and collectors’ marketplace. The 1746 W. Fillmore Street site was formerly an Intersan Manufacturing location; while the 16087 N. 80th Street site in Scottsdale was once the home to the Constellation Aviation company.
The other planned Amazon delivery site at 1302 N. Scottsdale Road was for more than a decade a pawn shop.
