Colorado State University is among three universities to be named as the most outstanding student construction chapters in the country by the Associated General Contractors of America.
The school’s chapter was singled out for a Community Service award in response to work building a ramp for a family with a child suffering from cerebral palsy.
The work additionally saw the construction of a covered deck and carport allowing for the child to enter the home without having to be carried up the front steps.
The project was undertaken as a joint effort by both Colorado State University and the AGC of Colorado.
Boise State University’s AGC student chapter was honored for building two new portable classrooms at the Peregrine Elementary School in Meridian, Idaho; while Missouri State University was given an award for facilitating up to 40 separate events primarily focusing on community service.
In making the award, Dirk Elsperman, former AGC president, remarked that a “core priority of our industry is to sustain the pipeline of future construction leaders.”
Elsperman added: “These student chapters have demonstrated excellence in developing the construction workforce of tomorrow and a commitment to giving back to their local communities.”
The AGC university student chapters are specific to two- and four-year schools offering construction management, construction technology, and construction-related engineering programs.
The chapters are designed to provide opportunities for students to meet commercial general contractors and to learn firsthand about the commercial construction industry. The organization currently supports more than 170 such chapters nationally.
