A new large supermarket may be in the offing for Aurora in the wake of a disclosed $13.6 million land acquisition.
The Dillon Companies, which is based in Hutchinson, Kansas, is a division of the giant Kroger Company and is a well-known regional grocery supermarket chain operating in the center of the country in Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska.
In turn, the Dillon Companies is the parenting company of the Colorado grocery store chain mainstay King Soopers.
The purchased land is located within the borders of Green Valley Ranch East, a fast-growing master planned community on Aurora’s northeast side. More specifically, the site sits at the southeast corner of East 56th Avenue and N. Picadilly Road.
The site is currently vacant but just blocks away from two large new residential developments.
According to City of Aurora documents, a grocery store had earlier been proposed to go up as part of a 27-acre site that may also include a drive-through pharmacy and fueling station.
No exact plans for the site or a new grocery store have been announced.
Launched nearly 80 years ago in Arvada, Colorado, King Soopers currently operates around 120 stores primarily in the Centennial State.
