Bernalillo County Seeking Funds for Fire Station Projects

As members of the New Mexico State Legislature are meeting for a two-month winter session, Bernalillo County officials have submitted a list of items they hope to see funded that include three fire facility projects.

The largest capital outlay request is for $3.3 million to plan, design, and upgrade the Bernalillo County Fire Department Station 36 at 501 Bear Canyon Lane in northeast Albuquerque.

The county is also asking for exactly $1 million to plan, design, and build new facilities at the Fire Prevention Division’s site at The Atrium, located at 6840 Second Street NW, roughly 6 miles to the north of downtown Albuquerque.

A third item is asking for $1 million for the acquisition of land, as well as the planning, designing, and building of a fire station that will serve the vast Southwest Mesa on the western-most edge of metro Albuquerque.

An additional capital outlay request is seeing the county asking for $400,000 for the purchase of a heavy duty Wildland Fire Fighting truck.

The Bernalillo County Fire Department currently operates twelve fire stations, as well as the Fire Academy training center located in the South Valley.
