Up to 2,650 acres of mostly agricultural land in the growing city of Buckeye, Arizona may soon be officially set aside for future industrial growth.
City leaders are looking at a plan that would designate a large swath of land that runs adjacent to Arizona State Route 85 to be used for the construction of any number of manufacturing and warehouse facilities.
The proposal is currently under the review of the Buckeye Planning Commission. If approved, the land will become part of a larger industrial corridor that has seen seeing the development of speculative industrial buildings and any number of new manufacturing facilities.
As proposed, new structures in the area would be expected to have modern designs and be built with “high quality, contemporary materials.”
According to reports, several properties located within the corridor made up of both incorporated and unincorporated land could see a redesignation of zoning allowing for commercial park uses.
Located just under 40 miles to the southwest of Phoenix, Buckeye has been categorized by the U.S. Census Bureau of as one of the fastest growing cities in the country, with a current population of nearly 92,000 people, up from only 6,600 residents two decades ago.
Public hearings on the corridor proposal are expected to be held in late April and early May before the matter goes to the Buckeye City Council in its May 17 meeting.
