Salaries for civil engineers are continuing a trendline that has been apparent for the last several years, with the latest figures indicating an average $9,000 increase.
So reveals a new report published by the Reston, Virginia-based American Society of Civil Engineers that also shows the industry’s average base salary is now up to $148,000 a year.
Altogether, civil engineers have seen a jump of $25,000 in their salaries since 2022 when the average came in at $123,000. Industrywide, the average salaries have been up by between 6% and 7% in the last three years.
In a statement, Marsha Anderson Bomar, ASCE President, said the latest figures will serve to make the industry more job competitive. “People who might be on the fence now about how they want to steer their careers see that this profession allows them to earn a proper living and do the engineering work that they love to do.”
According to the 2025 ASCE Civil Engineering Salary Report, increases in the industry’s salaries were particularly noticeable coming out of the Covid 19 pandemic when the average jumped from $115,000 to $120,000.
Figures for the report are crunched from the responses of more than 2,400 ASCE individual members, providing both a national and regional overview. The report is published every fall.
Among the report’s other takeaways: more than 82% of respondents indicated that they were currently satisfied with their jobs. While strong, that response is slightly down from the just over 85% who felt the same way two years ago.
The ASCE is one of the oldest professional associations in the country, having been founded nine years before the Civil War in 1852.
