Clayton, Colorado Church Property is Up for Sale – One of Many Churches on Today’s Market

A former church built in 1923 in western Colorado is now on the market with an asking price of $640,000.

As an indication of the direction of real estate in the Centennial State, the same building was up for sale in 2017 for $350,000.

Located at the corner of 2nd Street and F Road in the town of Clayton, the 14,139-square-foot three-story building was once described by the Grand Junction Sentinel as “big and square and brown, and it looks like it might have been an orphanage in the past.”

But, in fact, the building has always been the place for houses of worship, with the names of the churches through the years including the Soldiers for Jesus Church, the St. Paul’s Pentecostal Church, the Clifton Christian Church, and more recently the New Day Ministries.

Designated as a Class B structure, the building has an open and airy nave, as well as office, kitchen, and meeting space.

The property is being listed with the Grand Junction-based Caldwell Banker.

Church properties have increasingly become hot real estate items, with most such structures being sold and reconverted for office and apartment use, with an emphasis on creating new affordable housing space. In Colorado, there are currently more than a dozen such properties on the market, varying in size from 3,300 square feet to 66,000 square feet, with a price range between less than $1 million to more than $13 million.
