Up to $10.4 million in loan support is being given to a series of construction and development projects designed to expand affordable housing options in Colorado.
The largest allotment at $14.7 million from the Colorado Division of Housing will go to the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, a non-profit that plans to upgrade and re-purpose a former hotel.
That repurposing will turn 139 rooms that once belonged to the Quality Inn & Suites into 139 affordable units in Denver’s Park Hill neighborhood.
Some $2.6 million is going to Pathway Family Shelters in Grand Junction for the building of an 18,000 square foot shelter for women and families. As planned, the shelter will also provide employment and educational services.
Gorman and Company, a group that fosters housing partnerships with offices in Denver, is getting $1.3 million to build an apartment complex, also in Denver.
The Gorman project will see the construction of a 132-unit facility especially for people who are homeless and/or who have disabilities. That complex will go up inside north Denver’s Globeville neighborhood.
Globeville will additionally see the construction of an affordable income 150-unit complex, with an on-site first floor health clinic. That project is being spearheaded by the Atlanta-based Columbia Ventures LLC, which specializes in urban mixed-use development.
In a statement, Rick Garcia, the executive director of Colorado’s Department of Local Affairs, which oversees the Division of Housing, said the loan awards demonstrates the state’s “commitment to support the creation of an equitable affordable housing market that drives accessible, safe, and secure homes for all Coloradans.”
