Work will most likely start in December of this year on the building of a new two-story elementary and middle school that will be a part of the big El Paso Independent School District.
The new Terrace Hills/Collins Elementary School, as designed by the Albuquerque-based Dekker/Perich/Sabatini architectural firm, will see the construction of what is described as “21st century classrooms,” along with offices and fine arts space on the northeast side of the city.
Typically, 21st century classrooms allow space for audio, text, and image technology tools, as well as plenty of room for student collaboration.
The $35.3 million project is being funded through the historically large $666.8 million bond passed by El Paso Independent School District voters in the fall of 2016.
As detailed in plans announced by district officials more than two years ago, the Terrace Hills/Collins Elementary School project will see the renovation and updating of the current Terrace Hills school at 4835 Blossom Avenue.
Students from the Collins Elementary School, just north of the Terrace Hills facility, will transfer into the latter facility upon the completion of the project.
The project will also see the renovation of Terrace Hill’s cafeteria, dining space, and library.
Work is slated to be completed on the Terrace Hills/Collins project by the beginning of 2022.
