Work may begin sometime next year on the rebuilding of one of Denver’s most popular public swimming pools.
Located on the northwest side of the city at 4435 Navajo Street, the pool is a part of the larger Aztlan Recreation Center and was opened in 1982.
City officials had earlier planned to see the pool upgraded at least two years from now, a project that would be funded through the nearly $1 billion Vibrant Denver bond program approved by voters in 2025.
Of that amount, around $15 million has been slated for the pool project.
But due to structural issues with the pool resulting in a loss of 16,000 gallons a day, a decision was made earlier this year to close it to public use while speeding up the work schedule for the project.
Now the design phase has already begun on the rebuilding of the pool, with public input meetings set to take place early next year on the overall project.
The swimming pool through the years has primarily served residents living in several nearby housing complexes.
