Plans are underway for an extensive upgrading of the famous and much-used Ball Arena in Denver.
The owners of the facility, located at 1000 Chopper Circle, have announced plans to spend upwards of $135 million modernizing the facility. That effort will include the expansion of the structure’s existing atriums, as well as improved restrooms and new club spaces.
Opened in the fall of 1999, the Ball Arena is the home to Denver Nuggets basketball team, as well as Colorado Avalanche hockey team.
With a seating capacity of 19,000 for basketball games and upwards of 21,000 for musical concerts, the arena is owned by the Denver-based company Kroenke Sports & Entertainment. That company also owns the Nuggets and Avalanche teams.
In a statement, Stan Koenke, owner of the company, said his goal all along has been to support the two teams. “The renovated Ball Arena and subsequent redevelopment of the surrounding land allows us to keep doing both for another 25 years and beyond.”
The renovation work will also include new escalators, a new team shop, and large glass facade.
The Ball Arena is named in honor of the Ball Corporation, which became world famous in the late 19th century due to the production of its glass canning jars, the tops of which were decorated with the company’s script logo.
The Ball Corporation established a production facility in nearby Broomfield, roughly 25 miles to the northwest of Denver, in 1956. In 2020 the company purchased the naming rights to the arena.
The renovation work is expected to launch next year and be completed by the fall of 2028.
