A project that will see the completion of a student services building on the Portales campus of Eastern New Mexico University has now secured $6.5 million in state funding.
That finding is coming in the form of a capital outlay earlier approved by members of the New Mexico State Legislature and subsequently signed into law by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.
The $6.5 million is for what is officially called the Student Academic Services building, a structure designed to house the school’s enrollment services, financial aid, and counseling and career services offices.
The building is going up on the former site of residential building Harding Hall, which was demolished in 2023.
The $6.5 million in funding is one of more than $22.6 million in capital outlay approved for ENMU for a variety of facility projects on the school’s three campuses.
Roughly $2.5 million has been approved for heating and air conditioning system repair work to the Science Building; along with $75,000 for new lighting at the ENMU Theater, both on the Portales campus.
The various projects belong to a growing school that has a current enrollment of around 5,700 students, up from 4,900 in 2021.
