The El Paso Housing Authority has announced plans to target around $14.4 million in federal tax credits for two apartment complex renovations.
The one-story DeWetter Apartments, located at 212 Lisbon Avenue, is expected to be entirely renovated and upgraded at a total cost of $28.1 million.
The complex, built in 1971, has 98 units of varying sizes, ranging from 2 bedrooms to 5 bedrooms.
A second complex, the two-story Kathy White Apartments, located in northeast El Paso at 2500 Mobile Avenue and opened in 1972, is expected to see some $18.4 million in renovations.
That complex has units varying in size from 1 bedroom to 4 bedrooms.
Work on both complexes is set to launch next August, with a tentative completion date of February 2021.
Housing Authority officials say that the residents of both properties will be relocated to other HACEP complexes for the duration of the renovation work.
HACEP announced earlier this summer that upon the completion of the renovation work, both the DeWetter Apartments and the Kathy White Apartments will no longer be regarded as public housing facilities.
Instead, the complexes will be used by residents as part of what is regarded as a more efficient federal subsidy program.
