As part of an ongoing effort to provide more transit service and facilities along busy Montana Avenue, El Paso’s Sun Metro system has announced plans to build a new bus transfer facility.
As planned, the 5,600 square foot facility will include a waiting area, restrooms, a lounge for the drivers, and a concessionaire’s area.
The one-story facility, expected to cost $5 million to build, will also house community rooms.
The overall project will additionally include such site improvements as landscaping, new fencing, and the creation of space to allow for both bus and other vehicle parking.
The proposed Far East Transfer Center is part of a larger $47 million effort on the part of Sun Metro that includes building and enhancing a route beginning at the existing Five Points Center, slicing through the city’s downtown, and connecting with the Eastside Transfer Center.
A Request for Proposals for the project has been issued by the City of El Paso.
