A nearly 218,000-square-foot building in northeast Albuquerque that formerly housed a Walmart outlet is now on the market.
Asking price: an even $9 million, down from an earlier advertised $10 million by Walmart itself.
Located at 301 San Mateo Boulevard, the one-story structure was built in 1994 and officially opened as a Walmart store in January of 1995. It is designated as a Class B structure.
The Walmart company, somewhat abruptly, announced in early 2023 that it was closing the outlet, calling it an underperforming store.
The announcement led to concerns among local leaders that the International District neighborhood near the store could be at risk of becoming a food desert lacking access to produce.
Although the City of Albuquerque subsequently received around $2 million in state funds to purchase the structure, Walmart declined to reduce its asking price.
Sitting on a 17.6-acre site, the building is being listed for sale by CRBE realtors of Albuquerque.
