A long-time hotel building in Tempe is slated to be extensively renovated as a construction training center.
The one-time Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, which closed in the first week of this year, measures just under 170,000 square feet and is located at 2100 S. Priest Drive.
The structure, opened in 1975, was originally known as the Fiesta Inn and underwent an initial renovation some two decades ago.
Last month, the McCarthy Building Companies announced that it had purchased the property for $27.5 million, with the idea of converting the structure into an ongoing learning and development center for construction education.
One of the largest construction firms in the country, McCarthy Building Companies also wants to transform the 12-acre site of the hotel into a campus that will feature lodging, a restaurant, and meeting spaces.
Based in St. Louis, Missouri, McCarthy Building Companies has offices across the country, including in both Chandler and Phoenix. The company was launched as a family-owned business in 1864.
