With ten historic houses designed by the world-famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright sold in the last year, attention is focused on his last great creation: the Lykes House of Phoenix, otherwise known as the Circular Sun House.
That property at 6836 N. 36th Street, roughly 12 miles to the northeast of downtown Phoenix, has an asking price of $8.9 million, up from the nearly $1.7 million it went for in 2019. In the ancient era of 1990, the house was listed for $695,000.
Located in the upscale neighborhood of Palm Canyon, the 3,100 square-foot structure, notes the publication Architectural Digest, is “one of the architect’s most unique offerings, and one of only fourteen circular homes he designed in his lifetime.”
Featuring three bedrooms and three bathrooms, as well as a den, library, and office, the house is graced by Philippine mahogany walls, slate floors, and steel framed windows.
Wright, over a seven-decade period, was nothing if not productive, having designed more than 1,000 homes, office buildings, schools, and churches, among many other structures.
Called by the American Institute of Architects “the greatest architect of all time,” Wright was particularly known for his creation of what came to be known as “Prairie Style” buildings known for their long-low design and open floor plans.
The Circular Sun House is being listed by the Scottsdale office of realtor Deanna Peters.
