Plans have now been announced for the construction of a 144,500-square-foot building that will serve as the new corporate headquarters for the popular Sprouts Farmers Market grocery chain in Phoenix.
The project will go up inside a larger seven-acre campus that will take in 180,000 square feet of facilities near the intersection of 56th Street and Arizona State Route Loop 101.
Launched in the summer of 2002, Sprouts has emerged as a major national chain with more than 400 stores in two dozen states offering a wide variety of natural and organic food. The company saw more than $6.8 billion in revenue in 2023.
According to published reports, the new campus will include a 25,000-square-foot grocery store, a 3-story garage, and two other structures measuring between 4,800 square feet and 6,000 square feet.
The new headquarters will house everything from culinary kitchens to a tasting room and yoga studio.
Construction could begin by early this summer with a general August 2026 completion date.
The announcement of the campus project comes as Sprouts is opening a new one-story location in Santa Clarita, California; as well as an additional location in Aurora, Colorado. Yet another store is set to be opened in June in Dallas.
The average size of a given Sprouts store is just under 28,000 square feet, down from a previous average of around 30,000 to 32,000 square feet.
The company’s business model has not only relied upon a vigorous building expansion, but also the growth of its own private labels lining the shelves of its stores. According to the publication Grocery Dive, those labels as of early 2024 accounted for 20% of the company’s annual revenue, up from 12% in 2017.
