A Colorado Springs company with a national reputation for communications technologies is ready to build a new manufacturing facility.

The company, Terra Ferma, which is located at 11681 Voyager Parkway, was founded in 2009 and is the developer of a wireless communication system using infrared light, rather than a traditional radio frequency.

According to the company’s website, this technology allows for light to “transmit high speed data through the air, just like fiber optics, but without the cables.”

Terra Ferma is also the author of a supply device that has the power to provide customers with cameras, sensors, and wireless communications in remote areas.

The company is expected to spend upwards of $1.3 million building a new manufacturing plant, as well as an associated support structure that will house engineering, customer service, and sales services.

“Technology and innovation are core to the ecosystem in Colorado Springs, particularly within the defense industry,” Dennis Roark, founder and chief executive officer of Terra Ferma, said in a statement, “and we’re proud to expand upon that legacy through this initiative.”

The initiative is additionally seeing the Colorado Economic Development Commission approving just over $1 million in tax incentives to get the new Terra Ferma project off the ground.

An exact timeline for when work on the new facility will begin has not yet been announced.
