A two-story brick structure in Colorado Springs built just before Theodore Roosevelt became president is now on the market with a listed price of $1.4 million.

Located at 2801 W. Colorado Avenue, the structure, three miles to the west of downtown Colorado Springs, was originally known as the Stockbridge House and was designed in what has been described as a Romanesque style.

Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, the structure as built by Charles Stockbridge – one-time mayor and pioneer businessman – was intended to survive “fire, hail, or the wrath of his fellow citizens.”

To that end, the building’s brick and stone walls are eighteen inches thick and the roof is made of metal. The front of the building is distinguished by its rooftop decorative wrought iron cresting.

By the 1960s, the structure was known as the Amarillo Motel and has in recent years fallen on hard times. Designated as a Class C structure, the building comprises more than 23,000 square feet.

The building is being listed by the Berkshire Hathaway Synergy Realty Group of Colorado Springs.
