The campus of New Mexico Junior College in the southeastern corner of the state is slated to see extensive work on two separate facilities, due to the successful passage of two capital outlay requests in the state legislature.
Around $1.1 million was approved earlier this year by legislators and later signed into law by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham for heating and cooling system upgrades at the Bob and Bonnie Moran Hall on the Hobbs campus of the school.
That $1.1 million will also target similar upgrades at the school’s Pannell Library.
A separate capital outlay, also approved by the Governor, targets $1 million for new roofing at both the Moran Hall and Ben Alexander Student Learning Center.
Founded in 1965, New Mexico Junior College has a rough enrollment of around 3,300 students.
New Mexico Senator Gay Kernan, whose District 42 includes the school, said she thought her fellow lawmakers were willing to approve the two capital outlays for New Mexico Junior College because “it’s a public facility that is paid for by public dollars and gives a lot back to the community.”
