Work could begin early this summer on an ambitious project that will see redevelopment of more than 70 acres belonging to the Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque.
The project will take place off of Gibson Boulevard SE, between Carlisle Boulevard SE and Truman Street SE, and is expected to see the building of office, retail, laboratory, and even some hospitality space.
Also planned for the site is landscaped, tree-lined parking, and plenty of walking space.
What is being called the Max Q at Kirtland has come about as the result of a federal program known as Enhanced Use Leasing.
That effort allows for the Defense Department to lease out what is regarded as under-utilized land on military sites for private sector development.
That leasing approach has also been successfully implemented by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, as well as the Veterans Administration and Department of Agriculture.
As envisioned, the project, to be designed by the Albuquerque architectural firm of Dekker/Perich/Sabatini, will be developed in four phases.
