It’s a matter of thinking big.

A growing Dallas-based company focusing on pipeline transportation and storage projects has announced plans to build an extensive natural gas pipeline that will stretch from the Permian Basin in West Texas all the way to Arizona.

The project by Energy Transfer, one of the country’s oil and gas pipeline giants, is expected to cost upwards of $5.3 billion to build, with an anticipated late 2029 completion date.

According to a statement from the company, the Transwestern Pipeline will “provide reliable economic supplies of natural gas to support the long-term energy needs for utilities and energy providers in the region driven by population growth, high-industry demand, and data center expansion.”

Measuring just under 520 miles in length, the pipeline will push up in a northwestern direction from West Texas to central and eastern New Mexico, cutting through north Arizona before dropping down to the metro Phoenix vicinity.

The project will also see the construction of nine compressor stations at various points along the pipeline’s route.

Energy Transfer says the project is “supported by significant long-term commitments from investment-grade customers,” and is expected to require a force of around 5,000 workers to build it.

Founded in 1996, Energy Transfer was instrumental in the building of the nearly 1,200-mile Dakota Access Pipeline, which was completed in early 2017.
