An Albuquerque school known for its Spanish language, art, and musical instruction hopes to receive up to $1 million in capital outlay funds from the New Mexico State Legislature.
That funding for the Tierra Adentro of New Mexico charter school will pay for the planning, design, and construction of a new facility for the school and will include the installation of intelligent wall systems with integrated technology.
The school, which also specializes in the teaching of Flamenco music and dance, is located in Albuquerque’s Sawmill District.
The Tierra Adentro project is one of more than two hundred school facility construction and upgrade projects submitted this winter to lawmakers for capital outlay support from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
Among the largest projects sent in by the Education Department for outlay funding is a $1 million request for HVAC system upgrades within the large Albuquerque Public Schools district; and $2 million to plan, design, and build new baseball and softball fields at the West Las Vegas High School in San Miguel County.
The Sierra Elementary School System in Truth or Consequences is asking for $1.2 million in outlay support for upgrades to its ventilation and air conditioning systems as part of a project to meet Covid-19 air quality requirements.
The smallest Education Department request submitted for this legislative session is asking for $22,000 to plan, design, and install fixtures and window coverings, among other items, at the Nex+Gen Academy High Magnet School in Albuquerque.
