One of the oldest and most successful shopping centers in the West is in line for a significant renovation.
Located at 3000 E. 1st Avenue in Denver, the Cherry Creek Shopping Center was opened in 1953 and has undergone upgrades here and there through the decades.
Now the mall’s owner, the Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group, has announced that it is committing upwards of $250 million to refreshing the facility, along with two other shopping centers the company owns in Nashville and Tampa.
The work at the Cherry Creek center, said Simon in a statement, will entail a “statement-making redevelopment designed to enhance the guest experience and reinforce its longstanding reputation as one of the most renowned addresses for luxury retail.”
The project will see what is described as “modernized flagship spaces,” along with architectural and storefront upgrades.
The Cherry Creek Shopping Center was one of the first large centers of its kind in Colorado in the early 1950s, launching an era of modern shopping mall development and construction in the state and region.
Work on the center, which currently is the home to more than 160 retailers, is slated to begin later this year.
