New Church of Latter-Day Saints Gets Green Light in Colorado Springs

Plans have advanced for the Colorado Springs construction of a 45,000-square-foot Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple.

The one-story structure will go up on an 18.6-acre on the northeast side of the city at the intersection of Flying Horse Club Drive and Barossa Valley Road.

There are currently more than one hundred LDS chapels, or temples, in Colorado.

The Colorado Springs project has been long in the discussion stage, with an emphasis on public engagement. In response to concerns voiced about the lights shining all night long on the building, an attorney representing the project said those lights would shine downwards.

The temple will have an exterior finish made up of glass fiber reinforced concrete, with the structure itself housing four instruction rooms, a sealing room, and a baptistry. The project will also see the construction of a grounds maintenance building.

It is not yet known when work on the temple will begin.
