New Facility Plans Advancing for Growing Liberty Common School in Fort Collins

Work on the facility expansion of a thriving charter school in Fort Collins could be underway sometime next year.

Located at 1725 Sharp Point Drive and described as a “classically oriented” institution, the Liberty Common School was opened in 1997 and is chartered by the larger Poudre School District.

The school currently operates three campuses in Fort Collins: two of which serve students in the K to 6th grade, with the third school housing classrooms for 7th grade to 12th grade students.

With an enrollment of nearly 1,400 students, and a reported waiting list of another 1,200, the school has seen enough growth to prompt it to purchase two other buildings, at 1825 and 1901 Sharp Point Drive, to create more classroom space.

In an online statement, Liberty Common has said that its ultimate intention is to gut and renovate the one-story structures, while also building a new gymnasium, large lunchroom, and new lab space in the process.

What will ultimately become the Liberty Common Junior High School has already been the subject of one public input meeting and is scheduled for review by the Fort Collins Planning and Zoning Commission.

Originally proposed in 2022, the expansion plan is expected to be done in phases, with the first new 7th grade classrooms completed by next fall.
