In an effort to continue the expansion of the nation’s electric vehicle infrastructure, the Department of Energy has just announced project funding availability to the tune of $51 million.
The funding is coming through the Ride and Drive Electric program, and is designed to increase electric vehicle charging stations, provide equitable access via community-driven models, and improve electric vehicle charging reliability.
In announcing the funding availability, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm remarked that “rapidly modernizing and electrifying key parts of our transportation sector is how we’ll meet consumer needs and achieve widespread electrification.”
President Biden has previously set a goal of building a national network of up to half a million new public electric vehicle charging ports.
The Ride and Drive Electric program, which is being administered jointly by the Energy Department and Department of Transportation, is especially tasked advancing new business models for electrified mobility and fleet-based services.
Submission deadline for project concept papers is set for June 16. Applicants who have submitted what is regarded as an eligible concept paper will then be invited to submit full applications, with a posted application deadline of July 28 of this year.
